The necessity for the establishment of the Seday-e-Yara
The increasing complication of social relationships, the industrialization of the country, the weakening of emotional bonds among the members of the family, generation gap, unemployment, poverty, unchecked immigration to large cities, and the increasing of marginal living have all created a basis for social trauma.
Children and teenagers are vulnerable groups, and social changes disrupt and disturb their life more than others. As a result, the need for them to have access to extensive guidance is felt more than ever.
The Society considers talk and consultation among the most important ways of preventing social trauma, thus the establishment of the Seday-e-Yara.
Advantages of telephone help
Introducing the Seday-e-Yara
The Seday-e-Yara is the first hotline to counsel children and teenagers with their problems. The hotline began its work in December 2000, thanks to the efforts of the Society for Protecting the Rights of the Child.
The consultants of the hotline are volunteers with education and work experience in the areas of psychology, counseling and social work, who are chosen after an interview and then pass training courses. On specified days and at specified hours and with their own private code, these consultants proceed with their voluntary services.
The Seday-e-Yara operates on the assumption that all children and teenagers, irrespective of their social class, gender, race, talent, etc must have access to counseling in critical circumstances. To move towards this objective, the Seday-e-Yara endeavors to familiarize children, teenagers and families with the contents of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the concepts of "rights" and "duties".
Method of implementation
The Seday-e-Yara does not attempt to diagnose, cure or even clearly present solutions to the problems of callers through its telephone consultations. Instead, our volunteer consultants, with due attention to the scientific principles of consultation and interviewing and with practical experience if this field, begin by forming a supportive relationship with the caller. Then, in the course of their talk, the consultants pose appropriate questions and direct the callers to analyze their own situation. Finally, after examining multiple solutions and debating their pros and cons, the consultants ask the callers to make a suitable decision with regards to their own particular situation.
